Mildred Louise Linton was born to Louise Wise and Howard Linton. She worked at the Folger Shakespeare Library as a Clerk in both the Cataloging and Photoduplication departments. While employed at the Folger she met Horace A. Groves, whom she married on February 1, 1947. They had a son named Timothy William Groves (born July 27, 1949). Groves was born to William A. Groves and Ruth A. Flowers. Groves was hired in 1939 as a Bindery Assistant. In April 1942, he was called into war service and was assigned to an X-Ray field unit. After the war, around October 1945, he returned to the Folger and applied his new skills in photography as a Photoduplication Assistant. Virginia Ann LaMar was born on November 29, 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio to Bruce and Mary LaMar. By 1940, the LaMar family had moved to Hempstead, New York. From 1941-1946, Virginia LaMar worked as a secretary for the British Admiralty Delegation in Washington, D.C. and received the King's Medal in 1945 for her service.
